The trouble with not planning your trip at all and just spontaneously hopping on a plane to Europe is that you DID NOT PLAN YOUR TRIP AT ALL!!! At first I had a giant list of cities that I wanted to hit before I made it to the Camino de Santiago in Spain. But, after being on the road for about a week I decided that I should probably make my way to the trail sooner and then spend more time afterwards traveling.
So, in the middle of my trip, I tried to actually “plan” my trip. I figured after Berlin, I would hit just a few more cities before making my way to Spain. Since I was getting sick of this cold weather I decided to shoot straight down to Italy. I researched trains, buses, and finally Bla Bla Car. I found a guy making the drive on Friday, but I was only planning on staying in Berlin til Wednesday. I felt bad asking the people that were hosting me if I could stay a couple extra days. I hate being rude and didn’t want to overstay my welcome. I decided to message the guy, Conrad, from Bla Bla Car anyways just to see if there were any seats left.
About an hour later I got a response. It was a yes! This was great! Now all I needed to do was figure out where I was going to stay for the extra two days in Berlin. Just as I was opening a new tab on my web browser to start searching for hostels my phone went off. It was Franzi, another CouchSurfer that I sent a request to back when I was looking for a place to stay in Berlin. She was just checking in with me to see how I liked the city. We texted for a bit about Berlin and then she asked if I had found a place to stay yet. I told her my situation and she was more than delighted to host me!
It’s crazy how the world works. I went from having no idea as to what I would be doing to perfectly set plans. Sometimes when you just throw yourself out into the complete unknown the whole world comes together to help. Thank you Universe.
